Schediphon by Josef Josefovich Schediwa, Odessa, The Ukraine, patented in 1901 (with a subsequent patent [No. 8733] taken out in 1902 for Bohland & Fuchs in Graslitz).
Josef Schediwa (1853-1915) worked first for Cervený, but went to The Ukraine about 1881, where he eventually established his own firm in Odessa. He invented many brass instruments, including the similarly shaped lyrophone; however, the schediphons were among his last inventions. In 1905 Schediwa presented 174 of his brass instruments to the Landesmuseum in Prague, of which 63 are said to survive at the National Museum of Czech Music in Prague.
