** There is some overlap of serial numbers during the move from Philadelphia to Williamsport. Presumably, some stock was moved from one location to the other during the transition.
The early Distin instruments were stencils made by Sax or other French makers. Distin was manufacturing instruments in London probably by 1858, and were engraved "Henry Distin, Maker". Boosey and Son purchased the company in 1868, using the name "Distin & Co.", until areound 1874.
Distin was in business in New York, under the name "Henry Distin, Maker" by 1878. He moved to Philadelphina and later to Williamport, PA.
Distin retired in 1890, but the firm, under the name "Henry Distin Manufacturing Co.", was managed by Brua C. Keefer, Jr., lawyer and son of the major stockholder. In 1909, the Keefer purchased the company
