I am NOT a horn person! I have repaired and built guitars, banjos and other stringed instruments for years and I am just now (age 61) looking into learning more about repairing band instruments. I was given a stack of moldy old cases from the cellar of a music store. Most were too far gone to even bother trying to air out. One "empty case" tuned out to contain an old silver trombone. Besides the case looking like it carried Ebola, the trombone looks to be in good condition. The slide moves slowly, and looks like the grease is very heavy. The only obvious damage I can see is the spit valve needs one or both of its springs replaced. It is labeled "CF Boston JR" and "made in Elkhart, Indiana" with the serial number R9206. I tried googling it and I can't find anything. I have no interest in finding out if it has any value; I could care less if it's worth 20 cents or 20 dollars. I would like to find out when it was made and if it would be considered a student grade. I do have photos posted on imgur but I am not allowed to post links until I have posted one message. We have another CF Boston trombone in the database.  I would speculate that CF Boston Jr may have been a music store.  With the Rxxxx serial numbers, it could be that the horn was made by Buescher.
