This is a rare instrument. It was NOT made by the HN White Co., but rather by the Cleveland Musical Instrument Company. It is not a C- serial number which indicates a Cleveland made by HN White, so it simply has four digits. The Cleveland's made by HN White before he bought the company are stamped CLEVELAND MUSICAL INSTR. Co Clev,d O., and are not stamped "Made By" anyone. This one is stamped MADE BY THE Cleveland MUSICAL INSTRUMENT CO. CLEVELAND OHIO. Later Cleveland's made by HN White (after the buyout) are stamped Cleveland Made By the HN White Co. Cleveland Ohio.
This is also not a medium bore (.445) Trumpet like the Cleveland's HN White made before he bought the company, nor does it have the HN White valve assembly. This instrument has a bore of .465, and certainly plays like a large bore Trumpet. The pistons have three point guides somewhat similar to an HN White, but the valve casings and balusters are very different.
Overall, the build quality is quite good, and it plays very well in tune with moderately worn pistons.
The mouthpiece receiver is odd though. It is engineered to accept the slightly smaller shank Trumpet mouthpieces of the mid to late 19th century. John Heald Trumpets also have a similar receiver integral with the leadpipe. I happen to own a John Heald Trumpet mouthpiece which fits perfectly. Current manufacture Trumpet mouthpieces will fit with less than a half inch in the receiver. Useable, but the instrument will play slightly flat even with the tuning slide all the way in.
It's been several years; can't figure out how to add the photos. Help, anyone?

Email them to kenton@horn-u-copia.net and I'll make a composite and add it to the database. Preferably both profiles and the bell logo.
