Fürscht trombone (?)

Hello,

I am new here. The other day I bought a second trombone cheap on a small ad site here in Romania. I wonder if someone have any information about the maker. It was sold by Migma in the former DDR. I think the name reads Fürscht. The mouthpiece is Schmidt in brass.

The trombone will get a bath and grease and oil plus some polishing. It looks and feels very good and came with the original hard case. It looks like from the 50´s or 60´s, but I am not sure.

Also, it looks quite dark and dull and have some stains. Should I polish it with brass polish or leave it as it is?

I have images of it on my computer, but do not understand how to attach them...

Any info is appreciated. Thank you!
Mike

Hi Mike,

One option is to send the images to me at kenton@horn-u-copia.net and I will make a composite of them and post it in the database.

Regarding the finish, you will need to determine whether there is any lacquer on it or not.  I'd suggest you go ahead and clean it up, and then see if you can see whether there is any lacquer on it or not.  If there is none, then a brass polish will brighten it up.  If there is lacquer on it or partly on it, then polishing it won't help much without first removing the lacquer.

Thank you Kenton.

I have emailed pics, I do not understand your "insert image".

Thx for the advice on polishing. No, the trombone has no lacquer left at all. I will go very easy on polishing and see what happens. I used to build and restore motorcycles and parts, will follow old protocols.

Many thx from a guitar player turning trombone and cornet during corona. Cheers!

Hmm,  I didn't get any email.  Let's try an email with no attachments, and go form there.

This is a Migma Trombone

Furscht Migma Trombone

I am unsure whether the maker was Furscht or Migma, and therefore I&rqquo;m not sure where to classify it.

Mikeinbuc says:  "Furscht was a manufacturer who had to sell through Migma during the communist era. I have seen a few horns etc by the brand Furscht from before communism. Some were quite expensive on auctions. But I find no other information. My hope is that someone knows who and where they were and what happened to them."
