Now that's a mite confusing. This is a kuhlo horn. Note that it has a tuning slide:

Johannes Kuhlo came up with the design. It's a flugelhorn wrapped in compact form with a conical tuning slide, no doubt present to defeat the notorious 5th-partial's poor intonation. The instrument pictured, however, is a wrapped flugelhorn with tuning at the lead-pipe, meaning it's not a true Kuhlohorn, but is a regular flugelhorn.

At a guess I'd say the maker was trying to cash in on the Kuhlo design by selling a flugelhorn that resembled a true Kuhlohorn.

If you think Cerveny tubas in the tenor range, you have small-, medium-, and large-bore versions (the latter referred to by others as "euphoniums"). In the world of post horns, you see the same thing.

By strict definition, because it has a conical lead-pipe, a Kuhlohorn is technically a soprano tuba. Which is why I'm looking for two in playing condition to add to my tuba collection- to be donated to the university at some point.

Some of the kids at the university have remarked that certain instruments in my collection look like they came straight out of a Dr Seuss book. If that catches the little warts' attention, all the better.
