Identification Help - Silver Piston w/odd Logo?

Hello everyone.

I am helping my parents sell items that they are not using from their home so that they can relocate to where I live.

My grandparents bought this euphonium for my father second hand in the 60's for him to use for band. It has been in our family ever since. In researching it it seems that part of the logo is missing, and I am having difficulty identifying it. It is marked as a "Silver Piston Chicago" but it doesn't match well with any of the logos listed on this site.

I don't know what to make of it. What are your thoughts?

Silver Piston was a trade name used on imported instruments and marketed through Lyon and Healy of Chicago.

That's what I suspected, thank you.  Is it normal for it to be missing the Lyon & Healy mark? What year do you think it was imported? I looked at the logo page and my best guess was 1900-1920, but I'm new to this.

Old catalogs show:

In 1894 L&H advertises Light Action Silver Piston.
In 1901, L&H advertises that they have been selling Silver Piston for 10 years.
By 1905 they are calling  them Champion Light Action Silver Piston

I wish I had access to more catalogs.

That's quite a spread.

Me too! It's like becoming a detective to solve a mystery, and I love mysteries. It's just difficult when there aren't very well-kept records to search through.

What do you think it's realistically worth? I'm surprised that it hasn't sold yet. My father had a difficult time letting it go and I'm not sure if I priced it correctly.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

We don't try to estimate the value of instruments on here.  But, I will say that it has a couple of things going against it.

1) for the most part, modern bands don't use them anymore.  And,

2) people tend not to pay much for imports.
