I own a French horn, purchased for me by my grandfather in Vienna, probably in 1957, and have been playing it ever since. It is a compensating double (F/B-flat) with a “stopping” valve that includes an extension enabling a key change from F to E-flat. The horn appears almost identical to a Knopf Model No. 14. However, it is engraved: ANT. DEHMAL, NACHFOLGE, WIEN VI, BREITEGASSE.

So, I am asking if this is a rebranded Knopf, or is it copy of a Knopf? The Horn-U-Copia database notes that “Franz Klimesch (1882-1957 Wein [sp]) worked for Anton Dehmals and took over the business in 1907. He produced instruments under the name of Dehmals Nachfolger.”

I would appreciate information from anyone who might be able to tell me more about my instrument. Images pending.
