How to make effective use of Horn-u-copia

At one time, it was easy to navigate Horn-u-copia because there were not that many makers/dealers and instruments listed. But, as the collection has expanded, it has also become less simple to navigate.

Those of us who have used it for some time have developed habits to make using the forum quicker and easier. Here are a few suggestions:

1) if you use the collapse button (on the left edge of the blue title category bars), you will see only the category name, but not all the boards under it. You can tell when there is new information that you have not read, by the "cornet at the ready" icon (pointing up).

2) there are <Topic Jump> drop-down lists at both the top and the bottom of the display on the right-hand side. You can use the Topic Jump to go quickly to an area you wish to explore.

3) at the bottom of the page, there are "the most recent post" and "View the __ most recent posts of this forum." that you can use to see the most recent activity.

4) In each section is a topic titled, Enter Manufacturer Gallery. You can use this topic to get a listing of all the instruments from that particular maker, sorted by instrument.

5) Please note that only the most recent portion of instruments and commentary are contained in the forum. After a year, the significant discussion is moved into the database alongside the image.

6) Because an instrument is currently only in the database, doesn't mean that it can't be brought back for further discussion. If you want to re-post the picture of an instrument in the database, simply go into the Manufacturers Gallery and copy the line under the image and post it into your new post.

This is just a few tips that come to mind, and each user will probably use the site somewhat differently, so if you have other tips or navigation frustrations, please let us know. We may have a suggestion, or you may have defined an upgrade we need to consider.

Thanks

Is there any way of finding out where an instrument is and/or communicating with the person who posted the image and details in order to discuss it? Is posting a message in the forum the only option?

The images of the instruments come from a number of sources.  Some are from their owners. Many are from eBay ads.  Other than posting a message, you can also send private messages or emails to the person who posted.

Please check the catalog to make sure we don't already have an example of the particular model, and if not, send them to me at Kenton@horn-u-copia.net, and I'll process them.  I can then send you a copy of the link to the image to add to your post.  Or, you can go ahead make your post, and I'll attach the picture afterwords.
