Horn-u-Copia's Display of Makers

Charles Osgood worked for Conn from 1890 as a maker and engraver. In 1914, he started his own company, making high end instruments until 1928.

• 1890 working for Conn in Elkhart, lives at #104 N 2nd St.
• 1904 working for Conn, home at #321 E. Jackson Blvd.
• 1910 assembler in horn factory, home at #321 E. Jackson
• 1912 horn maker, home at #411 E. Jackson
• 1913 January "Mill Supplies" reports "The C.W. Osgood Co. has been incorporated to manufacture band instruments with a capital stock of $10,000." Charles, his wife Phobe and Guy H. Butt are the directors.
• 1913 Feb., Osgood Co. using the union label
• 1913 Music Trade Review reports on Aug 3oth that Osgood incorporated last week
• 1920 Osgood, band instrument manuf., #411 E. Jackson
• 1922 C. W. Osgood Co., #411-1/2 E. Jackson (his factory was adjacent to his home), Charles pres & sec, C. A. Beddow vp, Phoebe Osgood tres, band instruments
• 1928 the company is said to have ended this year
• 1930 Census has Charles at #218 W. Marion, manuf. of band instruments, owner of business
• 1940 Charles is living at #617 S. 2nd St., retired
• 1946 Charles dies in Goshen, Indiana

His home at #411 E. Jackson is now a parking lot with a small commercial building.
