Started as Root and Cady, dealers and publishers in Chicago.
After the great Chicago fire, they dissolved and reformed as George F. Root & Sons and E. T. Root and Sons. The merged in 1875 to form Root & Sons Music Co.
Instruments probably made by Phillip Frederick. They also sold Jules Durand instruments.
