Horn-u-Copia's Display of Makers

Between the 2 world wars, Wenzel Meinl, father of Anton Meinl, started a wholesale music firm in, Saxony/Vogtland.

Anton Meinl joined in his fathers enterprise in 1947. Anton Meinl had worked to improve tubas. He was the first to use the hydraulic system to bend tubing for Tubas and the first to use steel ball action on rotary valve Tubas. His cutting patterns became famous for its projection and core. The configuration of slide tubings of the Meinl-Weston Tubas has contributed significantly to the efficiency and response of the instruments.

The Meinls son Gerhard, joined the firm in 1984.

In 1991, along with investors, Gerhard Meinl founded the TA Musik group. TA Musik GmbH which continues to operate as a management holding company for musical instrument manufacturers.

Rudolf Meinl

Rudolf Meinl, Sr. (b. July 25, 1939, Silberbach, near Graslitz, Bohemia.

His family was driven from their homeland in 1945 and resettled with other wind instrument craftsmen in Central Franconia. His father was a Graslitz instrument maker who had a self-contained factory producing parts for all Brass instruments. However, their emphasis was tubas. In 1954, Rudolf became an apprentice in his father's shop. He had three children: Rudolf Jr. (b. 1962), Renate, and Karin .

Rudolf Jr. today runs the factory. The business has centered around the development and refinement of a full line of tubas, helicons and cimbassi in all keys and sizes.
