Charles H. Lichty (1856-1918) started in the music business and opened a store in Reading in either 1881/3 at #748 Penn. St. He moved to #641 Penn. St. in 1896. This store was destroyed by an acetylene explosion in 1902 then rebuilt. In 1914 they moved to North 8th St. and the business was purchased by manager Raymond Brown following the death of Alonzo Lichty in 1918. It was incorporated as Lichty Music House in April of 1919.
