Horn-u-Copia's Display of Makers

• 1843 - July 3th-Born Atkinson, NH
• 1861 - Moved to Mancester, NH - Played key bugle and cornet
• 1863 - Moved to Worcester (MA)
• 1867 - Employed by Isaac Fiske One day passing a shop, (I) noticed an instrument in the window and entering, inquired the prices. Heald made a purchase and, as luck would have it, the shop keeper was none other than Isaac Fiske, who took an interest in the young man and subsequently offered Heald a job and the opportunity to learn the trade of instrument making. He performed with Clelland and Healds Orchestra. He remained with Fiske for about fifteen years and left Worcester a master, instrument maker. It is likely Heald owned and played a cornet prior to his move to Worcester; the association with Fiske may have focused his interests.
• 1880 Worcester City directory lists him as a separate instrument maker from Fiske with a shop at #85 Mechanic St. while Fiske was down the street at #13.
• 1881 - Moved to Springfield, (MA) - Employed by C.W. Hutchins Music House
• 1888 - Employed in Philadelphia as an instrument maker.
• 1889-1927 - Springfield (MA) - Established instrument manufactory and repair shop, first at 23 Taylor Street, 275 Main Street and 1617 Main Street.
• 1927-1930 - Used the name Springfield Band Instrument Company
• 1934 - John died, at age 90, in Springfield, MA. He lived at 92 Florence Street in that city. He is buried in Laconia, NH.

Used American Premier as a tradename.
