Theophil Marcus Koeder Worked for Holton in Chicago from 1907 to 1918. He established his own business in 1920. He used his own name and also used Blo-Rite as trade names.

Mr. T.M. Koeder was a music teacher in Naperville Il. and also had a home based business on School Street where he would repair and build trumpets.

He custom built these trumpets for various clients over the years, from around 1920 to about the time of his death in the early 1970s. His son then took over the business after he retired as a teacher, and continued repairing and building custom built instruments until his death in the late 1980s.

  • 1905 Koeder marries Lillian Hausen of Chicago
  • 1906 son Edward Theophil Koeden is born in Chicago
  • 1910 Koeder is living at #3237 LaMoyne St, Chicago, and working as a presser for a tailor; son Leonard is born
  • 1912 now in the Elkhart City directory as instrument maker
  • 1915 now in the Chicago City directory
  • 1918 The draft registration lists him at #311 North Church St. in Elkhorn, WI and working as an assistant supervisor for Frank Holton & Co.
  • 1920 now in Naperville (just west of Chicago); he is said to have lived on School St. making trumpets and doing repairs on the side while a music teacher
  • 1922 ad for T.M. Koeder, instrument repair & Majestic model trumpets, cornets, and trombones
  • 1928 The Hurtt-Jones-Koeder Co. begins production on August 13th in Pekin making Majestic model cornets, trumpets, cornet horns, trombones, & bugles. They also have the Hurtt Tuport line of trumpets, cornets, & French horns. Koeder was the designer and head of all manufacturing and was said to have started making instruments in 1920.
  • 1930 Production of Jones-Koeder instruments has increased and now includes clarinets, alto horns, & mellophones with a baritone now in development (July); H.G. Jones is president of the company. Koeder at #710 S. 9th St.
  • 1932 Koeder is at #710 South 9th St. in Pekin & is sec.-treasurer of company
  • 1941 Patent #2,244,205 is granted to Koeder for a mute design; his address is Naperville
  • 1942 Draft registration for Koeder shows him still in Naperville
  • 1971 Koeder dies in Naperville on November 30th
  • 1983 son Leonard dies; he was a professional trumpet player, a 50 year member of the Naperville Municipal band, and owner of Koeder Music from 1924-1979 with his father.
