Ira and Clayton (and later Herbert) Grinnell Dealers, and had a string of 42 stores across the Midwest and Canada.

Used New American, Wolverine, Regent, and Goldenrod as tradenames. According to an article in "The Music Trades" from August, 1922, Grinnell Bros. announced a new line of band instruments under the Wolverine and Golden Rod names which will be made by one of the large manufacturers in Elkhart. The line includes saxophones, cornets, trombones, altos, circular altos, mellophones, baritones, trumpets, tenors, Eb basses and helicon basses.

They sold Couesnon as a one of their offerings. Some of their product was made by Holton, others by Bohland and Fuchs.

The family sold the business in 1955, but it continued in other hands until 1981.
