From their WEB site: Hilarius Dotzauer (sn. on 3 April 1875) formed a company for the manufacture of brass instruments. Nine years later, 25 year old Hilarius Jr. took over the operation from his father, and built it into one of the leading factories in the region.
Using technical sophistication (he was the first in the industry to use a gasoline engine for driving lathes) he expanded by exporting to Austria, the Balkans and the Benelux countries.
Rudolf Dotzauer, the son of Hilarius Jr., developed a mechanized quality standard for its instruments. The company had 40 employees, expanding continuously until 1945. His younger brother, Ernest Dotzauer, went to Klingenthal for further study.
After the war the company owners and company employees had been displaced from their homes. Hilarius and Rudolf Dotzauer were reported in eastern Germany. Ernst Dotzauer was in Thiingen, where he hired a workspace and with the few tools he rescued and began a instruments repairshop. A number of his former employees were found their way back to the plant, new ones were recruited and trained.
Re-emerging in 1954, the Company acquired a factory in Carlstadt. A rapidly increasing number of old and new customers at home and abroad bought large numbers of new instruments and they also became an accessory supplier to other companies.
In the tradition his grandfather, the new chief, Josef Dotzauer began in 1965. Again, as a pioneer, he initiated modern technologies to brass manufacturing.
In 1994 Josefs son Jurgen was given the responsibility over a separate department of the company that builds signal instruments, natural-horns and Furst-Pless.
