Ernst David (born 18 March 1846) started his business in 1885 in

David Logo By the time David was twenty (in 1885), it is believed he was already doing business under his own name. By 1888 he was making musical instruments. By 1904 his business had grown to become a small instrument factory.

In 1918 his son Albert (born 1891 died 1944) took over the company. Albert David received a German patent (D) #629773 . In 1945 they closed.

In 1909 E. David in cooperation with Kuhlo developed the round form of the Flugelhorn we know as Kuhlohorn.

Albert David that had a daughter Anna Crepin that was later proprietor until closed at the end of WW II. The last name stamp of theirs seems to have been the CREPIN - DAVID.

The instrument company specialized in making brass instruments, many of which were used by Posaunen (brass horns) choirs in Protestant congregations in Germany and beyond. Johannes Kuhlo collaborated with Ernst David to develop the Kuhlohorn for use by Posaunen choirs. Some Ernst David instruments are still in regular use. Several examples can be found in musical instrument collections.

Finke bought his tools in 1945.
