Charles Missenharter established n 1856 in Ulm, relocated in 1861 to Stuttgart, and then moved to New York in 1870. He was bought out by H. Coleman in Philadelphia in 1892.
Coleman manufactured instruments in Philadelphia from 1895 to 1917, after he bought out the Missenharter company. He had previously been secretary to the Missenharter company. He used both his name and the Missenharter name as trade names. Coleman continued to use the Missenharter name until 1917.
