Description | jimmyfrank: I just wanted to say that i took the trumpet out this morning and, looked it over in the sunlight and,i cannot believe the engraving on this wm. frank - ARTIST MODEL - trumpet.
it has a log cabin, with smoke curling out of the chimney.
the cabin is sitting beside a rolling stream.
the cabin and, stream are in the valley,WITH A MOUNTAIN RANGE IN THE BACKGROUND.
WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE EAGLES,SOARING OVER THE MOUNTAINS. Grin
How did this work.did these companies have engravers on staff.
Does more elaborate engraving, signify a better grade of instrument.
Does artist model mean, pro level trumpet.
i see you said that it looks like the valves were done by blessing.was that a good thing back when this horn was made.because the valves are in tremendous shape,as are the sleeves.
Kenton: It would be good to know more about the engraving process. Some was automated. And, some was pressed in rather than actually engraved. And, of course there was the hand engraving.
Krax: I believe some were etched too. If an engraving has very smooth edges I guess it really is an etching
jimmyfrank: I went to borodis, just to get the mouthpiece pulled and,i ended up leaving it with george for a complete overhaul / restoration.
I think that george thinks its more related to a holton than a blessing.
Because looking at the pictures on the net,i thought that the FRANK ARTIST MODEL - looked an awful lot like the blessing artist and, super artist, models.
But george looked and, said holton family, but a lot of these chicago horn makers were interrelated.my limited googling skills had led me to that opinion also.
Kenton: Frank would have some of the Holton methods, if not actual parts from Holton, since he once worked there. But it is also alleged that Blessing made some of the valves for Holton. So, it is very possible that they are intermingled.
