OLDLOU: Are we to assume that King went back to a non micrometer adjustable tuning slide and added a first valve trigger on this model after my Super 20 Master Model # 3869XX was built, and photos of which I have sent to you? The subject pictured cornet "looks" to be a much older instrument than mine, even though the serial number says otherwise.
Pryorphone: If it is true, it certainly would not be the first time that a manufacturer built and sold older and newer models side-by-side (sometimes even on the same line!)

| Description | Pryorphone: I suspect that it is a forerunner of the design patent, since he does not actually claim anything but a description of the design,
-but-
Putting the tuning slide AFTER the valves like that would allow you to have a smaller effective bore, thus possibly speeding up the valves, and making the tuning slide more like a euphonium, trombone, or tuba; that is, a larger "duo bore".
It also occurs that pehaps White wanted to increase the bore size, but wanted to use all the tooling and valve-sets that were in already place for the first version. Or it may be that Frank Holton patented the New Proportion design, forcing White to move the tuning placement.
OLDLOU: This one looks to me to be a very sloppy thing to play. That "water valve" on the bell bow just has to make a mess on the musicians trousers when the water is blown out. Yuckkkk!!
