I was asked about this trumpet, and the owner had been told it was from the 1940s.  Does anyone recognize it?

This is a Vendome Trumpet Serial#32097.

If this instrument is realy made in Holland (Europe) it is not from 1940 I think 1970 and if from Holland the only maker that comes close to this style is Schenkelaars. I had not heard of Vendôme before.

To identify a older Schenkelaars take out a valve and when the vertical guiding looks like the one in the picture it's a Schenkelaars.

Hi,

This is my daughter's trumpet. It's valves are not like the one in your picture. It has a spring on it and no vertical guiding. I appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks!!!

Vendome Trumpet?? Made in Holland

A friend showed me an old trumpet he found in an attic. It is engraved "VENDOME" on the bell. It is stamped "Made in Holland" on valve casing. Serial #32003.

The horn looks like it's from 30's or 40's with a design engraved on bell. I'm stumped. Anyone have any info?

Besides the fact that the overall impression of this instrument is Schenkelaars there is a interesting detail. That pinky hook is the same as on a Schenkelaars flugle that I had.

Unfortunately, I got the valves oiled up and gave it a whirl. It sounds terrible  Sad  It's gonna need some work to be playable.

But thanks for the info! At least I have something to report back on.

Make sure, right away, that it isn't something simple like the corks on the waterkeys or an "unseated valve". Sometimes there is room to play with these things and they will cork up the sound quite nicely.

Well, I have cleaned it up and looked over valves, water keys, obstructions, etc. The horn is just not a nice playing horn.

I'm returning it to my friend with the info you all gave me. He'll have to decide what he's doing with it.

Thanks again to all of you for your help!
